Contradictions
Arriving unexpectedly with a
knock on the door
Her face said ‘I need to talk’
Is this place safe and
somewhere free from blame?
He nodded, as she started to
explain
She said sometimes it seems like we’re going down together
And still we keep coming back
for more
She said I’m sick of fighting
contradictions, living with the lies
Needing the approval of
adolescent eyes
I’ve been pushed against the
wall, pulled in pain across the floor
Sometimes it seems like we’re
going down together
And still we keep coming back
for more
She said I’ve lost the taste of
freedom ‘til I do another line
Given up on sense and reason like
I’m doing time
I’ve been pushed against the
wall, pulled in pain across the floor
Sometimes it seems like we’re
going down together
And still we keep coming back
for more
He listened in the silence seated
in his chair
Ministered green tea from
porcelain tableware
And in the space he helped create
she came to realise
This time is all we have and
that’s the best that life provides
Cos sometimes it seems like we’re
all going down together
And still we keep coming back
Sometimes it seems like we’re
all going down together
