'Contradictions by Paul Phillips is one of those
magnificent follies created by those who should know better. And yet many are
admired and loved for generations on - and I suspect that this may be the
case with this album.
The great thing about an 'older' songwriter is that they have something to say.
The opening title track is a gem - it says far more than the sum of the words
and is Paul's unique take on life. Other favourites include 'This is the Deal'
on the iniquities of the 'market' , the silly sing-a-long 'Mrs Hilda
Jones' and the evocative 'Running on Empty'.
The guitar work on much of the album is outstanding and worth the purchase in
itself. Paul's voice struggles at times to hit the notes - but that is part of
its charm. This is a truly mature album and deserves a wide audience.'
I've greatly enjoyed listening to the album - it
even came on holiday with us!
